Cradle Bridge Retail & Leisure Development

Where: Trowbridge, Wiltshire

The Background:

In 2013 MRMU bought a 2.65 acre brown-field, edge of town site in Trowbridge. The former Peter black toiletries factory is located next to St Stephens Place Leisure Park, which offers leisure activities, dining and entertainment, including a seven-screen ODEON multiplex cinema and an 80 bed Premier Inn hotel.

The Development:

The plan was to turn the site, which has been vacant for many years, into a thriving hub, anchored by a large, attractively designed Marks & Spencer Simply Food store (11,000ft2 ground floor and 5,000ft2mezzanine). Plans included a 6,500ftpub/restaurant and an additional two retail units of 3,000ft2and 2,000 ft2. It was to complement the recent regeneration of the St Stephens Place Leisure Park, which is intended to link to via a new footbridge across the River Biss. The £10M scheme aimed to achieve a high BREEAM rating for sustainable design and construction.

The Result:

Planning approval was been obtained and construction took place in 2016/2017. Tenants that have already signed include Dominos, Greggs, Pizza Express Delivery, Subway, M&S food court and Mitchells & Butler Toby Carvery.

The site was completed and opened in July 2017.
